Forrest supports Supt. Donahue
DINGMANS FERRY — Liz Forrest, candidate for the 189th PA Legislative District, has criticized local officials for attempting to remove John Donahue from his position as superintendent of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area after he reportedly discouraged Tennessee Pipeline officials from pursuing an upgrade of the pipeline, which runs through a mile of park land.
Forrest said Donahue's job is to protect the publicly owned park from degradations of all types, including the impact of the multibillion-dollar out-of-state Marcellus Shale gas industry. She likened officials’ actions to "killing the messenger."
“Nobody wants that pipeline, period,” she said. “But contrary to recent statements by some elected officials in Pike County who clearly have short memories, I believe that Superintendent Donahue is and has been a friend to Pike County. He isn't in favor of 'destroying pristine land,' as Commissioner Rich Caridi has unfairly accused. Donahue is doing the job that he is paid to do -- protecting our national park.”
