HONESDALE — Part of the Tiger Cub rank advancement requirements is for Scouts to visit a television station, radio station, or newspaper office and find out how people there communicate to others.
Michael G Stanton, Market and General Manager of Bold Gold Media’s Pocono Lake Region Offices, helped the Scouts finish their final requirement to earn their Tiger Cub badge.
Bold Gold Media’s Pocono Lake Region Offices is home to stations 95.3 FM (DNH), 105.3 FM (Classic Hits), 104.3 FM and 1590 AM (Wayne-Pike News Radio) and 94.3 FM (The Talker). Stanton offered a personal tour for the Tiger Cubs from Cub Scout Pack 1003 of Dingmans Ferry and explained to them how the radio station operates.
His tour showed the Scouts information on how the radio signal is transmitted from the station to your car, computer or telephone and showed the Scouts all of the equipment used to make a broadcast. As the Scouts toured the facility, Stanton described all of the various types of media that could be used to get the music to their cars.
This included demonstrations on records, cassettes, CDs and digital media on the computer. Many of the Scouts were amazed as they saw records and cassettes for the first time. Scouts were later given the opportunity to record a commercial at the station, which Stanton edited and played on the radio that same day at the top of the hour.
As Scouts left the station, they got to here the commercial played live on the 95.3 FM (DNH) radio waves.
