Earth/Birthday celebration at The Grotto
MILFORD — A celebratory barbecue was held on Sunday, April 27 in honor of The Grotto's one year anniversary and Earth Day.
Adam Haygood, owner and chef of Grotto Restaurant in Milford, thought it would be perfect to join the two days for a festive Sunday afternoon.
"This is our birthday/Earth Day celebration," Haygood said. "We are building bird feeders and germinating seeds to plant in our herb garden. Home Depot donated lots of goods for today's activities."
Holly Thompson, waitress at The Grotto, set up a table for children papier-mâché milk cartons to be used for birdfeeders. Getting really messy with the flour/water mixture was extra fun for the little artists.
Children also painted flower pots and planted seeds with Heather Hill, waitress and hostess of The Grotto.
Russell Holl was grill master for the day serving up burgers and franks.
Lenore Fasula and Jolie DeFeis were on site promoting Air Soil Water, an environmental non-profit group which started one year ago dedicated to bringing awareness for sustainability. "Our mission is to empower our community and our next generation to embrace and discover alternate energy forms that will move us away from harmful fossil fuel," Lenore said. "We can do more to help ourselves then just relying on the gas industry."
Air Soil Water is sponsoring the Milford Farmer's Market, which will kick off Sunday, May 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the River Rock Inn Courtyard, 210 Second Street in Milford. There will be vendors from the tri-state area at the market.
