River Road will close for annual maintenance
BUSHKILL — River Road in Middle Smithfield Township will be closed from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on May 13 and 14 for annual routine road maintenance, Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Superintendent John J. Donahue announced this week.
The road will re-open each afternoon.
Work will begin at the south end of River Road and progress northward toward Park Headquarters. Smithfield Beach will be accessible by vehicle from the south end of River Road both days. Access to the McDade Trail from trailheads along River Road will be limited while work is completed.
Hikers and cyclists may access the trail at Hialeah Picnic Area, Smithfield Beach, or Park Headquarters during this time.
“Doing this type of preventative maintenance makes the road safer for everyone that uses it and safety is a top priority for the National Park Service,” Donahue said.
