Lacawac Sanctuary will offer its photography enrichment workshop with noted photographer and image artist Michael Burnside on Saturday, June 7, starting with lunch at Lacawac’s Great Camp Lodge at 1 p.m.

The goal of the workshop is to help aspiring outdoor photographers enhance and sharpen their shooting skills with modern digital cameras. The focus will be on helping develop a vision of subjects and an ability to capture images that are strong as well as artistic. The size of the workshop is very limited to ensure plenty of personal attention from the instructor.

All students will be using their own cameras to photograph and share various historic architectural, nature and landscape images found around the Sanctuary grounds. The session will include lecture time, field work and group reviews and critiques.

Participants must have a digital SLR or a good point and shoot with adjustable settings. The first hour covers basics like exposure, focus, camera settings, composition, point of view, work flow and printing. Then everyone goes outdoors to photograph the grounds of Lacawac. Next is sharing, looking at each other’s work, and doing some (gentle) critiquing. Bring a cable to transfer photos from camera to a laptop for viewing on a wide-screen.

Instructor Michael Burnside has been working with photography since the 1960s, and has experience spanning many different techniques and eras. Samples of his work can be seen at www.BurnsidePhotographic.com. According to Burnside, the workshop is suitable for all levels of student as the emphasis will not be on technical achievement but rather the art of photography.

“I attempt to find images that people may often see at a glance but never truly notice. I am interested in getting people to see things in ways that they have not before,” said Burnside.

Prepaid reservations are required. Cost: $60 ($50 Lacawac Members) per participant includes refreshments and sandwiches. For more information about this workshop, call Lacawac Sanctuary at 570-689-9494 or visit the website at www.Lacawac.org.
