Boy Scout of Shohola Troop 76 attempting to qualify for his Rifle Merit Badge, using a Mossberg 340 under the close supervision and strict direction of Bob Gallagher, certified NRA Safety Instructor and BSA Merit Badge Counselor.
SHOHOLA — Scouts of Shohola Troop 76 recently participated in a Young Guns Campout that took place at the Matamoras Rod & Gun Club.
Under the direction of Bob Gallagher, Certified NRA Safety Instructor and BSA Merit Badge Counselor, 23 scouts were in attendance. Despite the fact that a percentage of the older scouts had already qualified at past outings with Gallagher, the focus at this event was on the younger scouts in terms of assisting them to succeed in achieving the requirements for the Rifle & Shotgun Merit Badges.
The requirements for each of these badges are extremely stringent with an overall emphasis on safety. As the ammunition for this event had been donated by the “Friends of the NRA”, a total of 4,500 rounds of ammunition were utilized by the scouts.
