Corbett still pressing for pension reform
PITTSBURGH — Governor Tom Corbett says he's still hopeful the Pennsylvania Legislature will take up pension reform, but won't say if he plans to call a special session on the issue.
Corbett spoke in Pittsburgh at July 11 press conference. He says he thinks Republicans are "very close" to reaching an agreement on pension reform and liquor privatization.
Corbett says some Republicans are being influenced by public sector unions, and now he's taking his cause to the public.
Corbett signed the state budget 10 days late on Thursday and used his line-item veto power to cut some Legislature funding.
House Majority Leader Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny, says Corbett needs to take the lead on crafting pension reform.
