Pennsylvania state troopers responded to a June 14 report of a phone scam from a resident of Greene Township.
The resident reported that she had received a call in the morning from a man who identified himself as a PP&L worker who told her that she owed uitility $989 in past due electric bills. The suspect advised her that if she not pay her bill by 11 a.m. her electrity would be cut off. He told her to go a local convenience store and call him back with the card numbers. She provided the requested information.
State police reminded the public that utilities do not request to be paid by gift cards. Contact your utility provider directly to speak with them about how they would notify you of overdue bills or other account issues. Do not give any financial or personal information out over the phone
