Delaware Valley Warriors hold off Wallenpaupack Buckhorns

MILFORD — Delaware Valley played the across county rival Wallenpaupack on Monday. The JVs were up first, then the Varsity. Both games were heart stoppers just like previous games.
The JVs were in a nip and tuck game where both teams held leads that seemed to cement the game at times but each time one team seemed secure the other team would roar back and assert themselves.
The periods went like this:
First, DV up 11-4.
Second, DV up 17-16.
Third, Wallenpaupack up 28-22.
Then, all tied at 37 at the close of the fourth.
At the close of the fourth DV had a two-point lead but a Wallenpaupack player was shooting a 3 pointer with the clock running out and a DV player fouled the shooter with no time left on the clock. He sunk 2 of his 3 shots and the game went into overtime.
In overtime DV seemed to take control but Wallenpaupack refused to give up and battled till the end, but in the end DV won out 46-42
This was a well played game by both teams and both ran hot and cold at times but neither team went down without a fight.
Up comes the varsity and the gym is still filled with the excitement that was left over from the JV game.
With defence the order of the night, there was no scoring until there were only 4:40 left in the first period. DV scored a 3-pointer and suddenly Wallenpaupack answered immediately with a 3 of their own. Right then I knew that this was going to be another exciting game and it sure was.
It was 9-7 with DV up in the 1st period. Then DV got red hot shooting from outside as well as driving to the hoop. The half ended with DV up 24-15 with Wallenpaupack scoring the last 5 points keeping the game honest.
The 3rd period saw DV up 39-31 and the game was tightening up
With only 2:04 to go in the 4th period the game was all tied at 44 each.
With 1:25 to go Dylan Kelly made a brilliant steal for DV and then drove to the basket and scored. With the seconds winding down it became a foul shooting contest. Both teams hitting clutch foul shots.
When the smoke cleared DV came away with a hotly contested victory of 51-48.
Final comments here: Wallenpaupack played a very good and well disciplined game and deserves to be acknowledged.
DV improved on their outside shooting and showed rebounding improvement at both ends if the court.
The stands were close to capacity and it was nice to see that everyone was into the games from start to finish. Fans from both schools were very vocal but also showed great sportsmanship and respect to the other teams and fans.
The teams, the fans, the schools and the administration’s should be very proud. Their conduct was exemplary.
This was another real fun night.
