— The Virginia Kidd House (Arrowhead) at 538 East Harford St. in Milford is putting together its first-ever Halloween party on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Got kids? Stop by in the afternoon. The fun starts at 3 p.m. with games, music, good food.

"Creepy fun stuff" starts later in the evening. Highlights include a bonfire, tarot reading, music, acoustic jam session (bring your instruments), and spooky stories. Costumes are optional, but the best ones get prizes.

Admission is free, and includes food and soft drinks, but bring some cash for a 50/50 and other raffles and fundraisers. Proceeds will benefit next year's "SF In Milford" event. You do not have to be present to win the 50/50. The winner will be announced on site at 9 p.m. Additional prizes will be awarded to runners-up.

About Arrowhead"Arrowhead" is the name Virginia Kidd gave her house in the 1950s. On weekends in the 1950s to 1970s, science fiction writers would stay with her or at Damon Knight's house (The Anchorage.) During the week they would run writer workshops. From these workshops came a method of critiquing manuscripts known the world over to this day as “The Milford Method.”

In addition to writing, Kidd was admired for her ability to secure good publishing deals for her friends and colleagues. Based on their encouragement to do so, she started her literary agency in Arrrowhead's living room in 1965, and it is housed there to this day.

The Anchorage burned down, and the Tom Quick is closed, so the Arrowhead is the last link to science fiction's rich history in Milford.

The Arrowhead SF (Science Fiction) Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving this house, and continue the tradition of bringing writers there.
