Golf outing honors fallen soldier, boosts scholarship fund

Staff Sgt. Brian Pavlich

PORT JERVIS, N.Y. — Masters Termite and Pest Control sponsored the 11th annual Tri-State Hose Co. No. 6 Scholarship and Memorial Golf Outing at The Lynx Golf Course in Port Jervis last summer to honor the life of Port Jervis volunteer firefighter, Staff Sgt. Brian Pavlich.
In the past, the event raised over $2,000 in scholarships that were given to graduating seniors; two from Port Jervis High School and two from Delaware Valley High School.
"The golf outing was a huge success thanks to all the individuals and organizations that contributed from the Tri-State area," says Bob Masters, owner of Masters Pest Control.
Staff Sgt. Brian Pavlich, 25, of Port Jervis was one of seven soldiers who lost their lives in an air mobility training crash while preparing to deploy to Iraq. Pavlich and many of his family members provided decades of service to the Port Jervis fire department, including the annual golfing scholarship and memorial event, which is now held in his honor.
Masters Termite and Pest Control were among the many local businesses, organizations, and tournament sponsors praised by Tri-State Hose Co. No. 6 for their contributions and support. The Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post #161 located in Port Jervis, presents these scholarships annually, and continues to maintain a memorial fund in the name of Staff Stg. Brian Pavlich.
“The annual memorial and scholarship golf outing is a way for my company to show support and give back to our community, in honor of a great cause,” Masters said.
