Mamie M. Meyer of Lumberland, N.Y., dies at age 86

Mamie Marie Meyer (“Peggy”) died on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017. She was 86.

Daughter of the late Arthur and Louise Turner, she was born Jan. 14, 1931, in the carriage house of Burne Brae Mansion of the Elkin Estate in Glen Spey, N.Y., as were many of her brothers and sisters. She was a lifelong and many generation native of Lumberland, N.Y.

She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in Glen Spey, then graduated from Eldred Central School. She worked at Andmore Swimwear, Barbara’s Quilting, and Kaplan Littman factories in Port Jervis, N.Y. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She was a member of the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry G. Meyer Jr., in 1986.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Meyer and his, wife, Janice of Cover, S.C., Kenneth Meyer and his wife, Therese, of Middletown, N.Y., Charles Meyer and his wife, Candace, of Shohola, Pa.; daughters, Debra Meyer of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., Kathleen Yennie and her husband, Brian, of Sparrowbush, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at Stroyan Funeral Home, Milford, Pa., on Oct. 30. Funeral services were held at Pond Eddy Methodist Church, Pond Eddy, N.Y., on Oct. 31 with the Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiating. Burial followed in Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.
