— During the shutdown of the federal government, national parks will remain as accessible as possible, but visitor services will be cut off, according to a release sent Monday morning by Kathleen Sandt, Public Affairs Specialist for the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area.

As long as conditions permit, park roads, lookouts, trails and open-air areas at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area will remain accessible to visitors, but emergency and rescue services will be limited.

No visitor services will be provided by the National Parks Service, including public information, restrooms, trash collection, and facilities and roads maintenance. NPS social media and websites are not being monitored or updated and may not reflect current conditions. All park programs have been canceled. These conditions apply along the 40-mile Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area as well as the 74-mile Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River.

The Pocono Environmental Education Center, Peters Valley School of Craft, Mohican Outdoor Center, and Bushkill Outreach, all in the Water Gap area, will remain in operation during the shutdown. Primary roads will be plowed in the event of a snowstorm.
