— April is National Poetry Month, a literary celebration created in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets.
To celebrate, American Readers Theatre artistic director Jeffrey Stocker will be teaching a five-week workshop at the Milford branch of the Pike County Library beginning March 3.
“This is a great opportunity to learn a new skill and use the resources that the library has to offer," said Library Executive Director Rose Chiocchi. "We’re looking forward to working with ART again!”
Stocker has taught dramatic reading at the National Arts Club in New York City and the Portland Civic Theatre in Portland, Oregon.
“This is a unique opportunity for anyone interested in learning the art of dramatic reading with a special focus on poetry,” said Stocker. “Members of the workshop will be introduced to vocal exercises to improve their speaking as well as basic acting exercises to learn to bring more emotion in their reading.”
The workshop meets Saturday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon, from March 3 through April 7 (off March 31), and is open to adults starting at age 18. Beginners are welcome. No experience is needed to attend. A $50 fee covers all five sessions. Tuition in the form of cash or check made out to ART is required on the first session.
Space is limited. To register, give your name and contact information to the library at 570-296-8211.
