Joseph P. Gaynor dies at age 90

Joseph P. Gaynor died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018. He was 90.

He was born on March 16, 1927, and grew up in Jackson Heights, N.Y., the youngest of seven children. After graduation from Newtown High School, he entered the Army and served as a radio operator in Gorizia, Italy, from 1945 to 1946. He studied business at New York University. Joe married Marie McColgan in 1951 and they raised four children in Elmhurst, NY. He worked in advertising as well as for the NYS Department of Tax and Finance. After retiring, Joe and Marie relocated to Milford, PA where Joe served as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society. The Gaynors were parishioners of St. Patrick’s Church. Joe was an avid chess player, and greatly enjoyed history, reading and arguing about politics with family.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Marie; daughters, Patricia, Mary Joan, and Sue; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Family received friends at St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, on Jan. 18. A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church on Jan. 18 with the Rev. Ed Straub officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Celtic Hospice 601 Wyoming Avenue Kingston, PA 18704.
