Twelve projects, half of them in Pike County, will receive $1.8 million in funding through the Monroe County Local Share Account from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

The grants are awarded to counties contiguous to Monroe County. The funds come from an assessment on certain revenues at Mount Airy Casino.

The lion's share in Pike is $425,000 for the county's sewage expansion.

“We are committed to working cooperatively with our elected officials and community leaders to advance locally identified, priority projects and hopefully ease some of the burden for local taxpayers,” said Sen. Lisa Baker (R-Pike/Wayne/Luzerne/Susquehanna/Wyoming), who announced the grants along with Reps. Mike Peifer (R-Pike/Wayne), Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne), and Rosemary Brown (R-Monroe/Pike).

“There are many needs throughout our community, and as legislators, we connect continuously with people to understand each and every one of these,” said Brown. “These grants definitely help to address some of these needs and work to support the people of our region.”
