James McAndrew of Milford, Pa., dies at age 87

James McAndrew of Milford, Pa., a lifetime resident of the area, died Monday, April 30, 2018, at home. He was 87.

Son of the late James McAndrew and the late Eleanor Hughson McAndrew, he was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Port Jervis, N.Y.

He married Patricia Carey 67 years ago on March 11, 1951, in Port Jervis.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of Port Jervis Elks Lodge No. 645, Port Jervis and the Roosa-Fleming V.F.W. Post No. 161, Port Jervis.

He worked as a conductor and earlier in his career as a brakeman for the Erie Railroad in Port Jervis.

A family statement read: “James was an avid golfer and was especially thrilled to shoot under his age in 2017.”

Surviving are his wife, Patricia McAndrew, at home; daughter, Patricia Raci of Stamford, Conn.; brother, Thomas McAndrew and his wife, Mimi, of Reno, Nevada; sister, Maryann Braun of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; grandson, James Shevlin and his wife, Deborah, of Houma, La.; granddaughter-in-law, Tammy Shevlin-Galligan and husband, Michael, of Cuddebackville, N.Y.; granddaughter, Brigid Fitzpatrick and her husband, John, of Houston, Texas; great-granddaughters, Alyssa Shevlin and Kayla Shevlin; great-grandsons, Andrew Shevlin and Jack Fitzpatrick; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter Susan Shevlin and sisters Patricia Faiello and Dolores Van Sickle.

There was no visitation.

A graveside funeral service with Military Honors was held at the Milford Cemetery, Milford.

Memorial contributions may be made to his great-granddaughter Kayla Shevlin’s charity walk to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF, 30 Glenn St., Suite 409, White Plains, NY 10603 (www2.jdrf.org/goto/shevlinshot).
