Benefit launch of children’s book and musical tale

Author and composer Ed Raarup will launch his children's book and musical tale, “Fireflies and Shooting Stars,” Sept. 29 at 207 East Harford Street in Milford.
The tale follows Enzo, a little firefly without a taillight, who sets out on a fantastical journey in search of his greatest wish while facing the challenges of being different.
“The tale of Enzo describes this young firefly’s journey and adventures to find his light. It’s a story of courage and acceptance”, says Raarup. “The book has an original sound track CD with 12 songs and is filled with beautiful illustrations. I have worked on this endeavor for five years with a number of very talented people, including renowned author and editor, Emma Walton Hamilton. It’s exciting to finally present Enzo to the world.”
The inspiration for the book came from friends, Ronnie and Joe Biondo, who created an all-accessible playground called Firefly Field in Matamoras. The playground affords all children the opportunity to play, share and learn in an exciting environment regardless of a child’s abilities. The naming of the playground and book were inspired by one of Ronnie Biondo’s favorite songs entitled “Fireflies and Shooting Stars” written by composer and musical director, Michael Rice, who has been part of the creative team from the start.
The event will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. where Raarup will be joined by the book’s illustrator, Lindsay D. Nery and musical director, Michael Rice. During the evening, vocalists of the original sound track will perform a select number of songs from the CD. The book and accompanying CD will be available for sale at a discounted price for one evening only.
Wine and desserts will be served. A donation of $10 at the door will benefit the Center for Developmental Disabilities, a local organization that provides educational, therapeutic, behavioral and family support for children with developmental delays and disabilities from birth to kindergarten.
