Pennsylvania to delay high school graduation test again

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania is poised to delay the Keystone Exams as a graduation requirement again and provide alternative ways for students to achieve proficiency.

Gov. Tom Wolf's office said on Oct. 15 that he'll sign legislation after it received a final vote of approval in the Senate. Wolf's office says the bill is in line with recommendations from the state Department of Education. He last year made changes to the state's regimen of standardized tests to reduce their impact and length.

Under the bill, the use of the Keystone Exams is delayed again, this time until 2021-22.

Meanwhile, it tasks state education officials with developing a proficiency standard for students taking the test, and gives school districts the ability to develop alternative ways for students to demonstrate proficiency without taking the test.
