Veterans Day ceremony to be held in Milford this Sunday

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I

— Veterans Day is observed at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. This Veterans Day has a special resonance as the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, which ended World War I.

Veterans Day will be observed with a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, at Pike County Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Kiehl Park, located at Broad and High Streets in Milford, All members of the Armed Forces, past and present, will be honored. The highlights are as follows:

Gregory Protsko, commander of the VFW Post 8612, will give opening remarks.

Joseph Ryder, Chaplain American Legion Post 139, will give the opening prayer.

Charles Valleau, Sergeant-at-Arms, VFW Post 8612, will lead the flag raising and the salute to colors.

Nick Sansevero, Officer-of-the-Day, VFW Post 8612, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Gregory Protsko, Commander of VFW Post 8612, will give the keynote address.

All participating units will present the Veterans Honor Wreath.

A bugler from the USMC Legion 909, VFW Post 8612, will give the sounding of taps and salute to colors.

John Kupillas, Chaplain of VFW 8612, will give the closing prayer.

Prior to the ceremony, between 8 and 10:30 a.m., the VFW in Milford will provide breakfast to members of the military and their families at the VFW Post 8612, 103 County Road 2001 in Milford.
