— Chili connoisseurs turned out for Belle Reve Senior Living’s annual chili cook-off on Friday, Jan. 11.

Culinary staff members from Milford's Belle Reve participated in the cook-off, including, Bill Meurer, director of dining services, chef Fred Rolff, and cooks Rodney Quick and Chris Felton. They each prepared their favorite chili recipes, then let those in attendance put their taste buds to the test to decide the champion.

“Belle Reve’s annual chili cook-off is a fun event and I enjoyed being a part of it alongside my colleagues,” said Meurer. “I love what I do and I am humbled that the residents and guests voted for my recipe.”

Meurer was declared the winner for his take on a traditional chili recipe with an added ingredient — hot dogs! He found his love for cooking while serving in the U.S. Navy. After Meurer’s service was complete, he attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. He has been creating delicious meal options for residents since 2006.

In addition to chili, attendees enjoyed chips and guacamole, and had the opportunity to be entered for a chance to win an Instant Pot Duo Mini 7-in-1 multicooker.
