DVE-News/TV reporters explore Lancaster on annual trip

DVE-News/TV reporters went to Lancaster on their annual trip. They learned about the Amish experience, including Rumspringa and the very difficult decision each Amish child needs to make between the ages of 16 and 21. They were surprised to learn that the Amish children go to one-room school houses until the eighth grade. They do not go to college unless they make the decision leave their families and the Amish.
They then went to the Turkey Hill Experience and learned how Turkey Hill makes its ice cream. They got to make their own flavors.
After eating dinner, the students went to see a Lancaster Barnstormer baseball game. They made it onto the jumbotron. After the game, a couple reporters interviewed the team’s pitcher.
On Saturday, the students went to the Wolf Sanctuary in Lititz, Pa. where they saw nine wolves despite the heat.
Then off they went to lunch and a visit to the Julius Sturgis Pretzel Factory, America’s First Pretzel Bakery. The students learned how to make their own soft pretzels and got samples.
After the tour, they went down the street to check out the Lititz Historical Society fair. People were dressed in 1800s clothes and explained what life of like in the mid-1800’s. This included how they made clothes, dyes, and soap. The reporters enjoyed interviewing the people there.
The students also went to the Strasburg Railroad where we met the conductor and went on a train ride.
All agreed it was a wonderful trip.
