MILFORD — Five Delaware Valley Middle School students have earned the right to compete in the multiple-school Tri-State Spelling Bee on March 10.
The students’ spelling journey began in January, when the entire school took a written spelling test. Nineteen DVMS students scored high enough to qualify for the school's oral bee, including:
Billy Maxwell
Sam Shin
Evan McDermott
John Lockwood
Bridget Markwalter
Nick Colavito
Cassie Joyce
Chris Zuniga
Noah Reeves
Riley Krick
Sophie Allen
Luke Peereboom
Alan Chen
Cole Miller
The oral bee whittled that number down to five super spellers:
Billy Maxwell
Luke Peereboom
Cassie Joyce
Alan Chen
John Lockwood
These finalists will compete against the finalists from five contending local middle schools. A total of 25 competitors from Delaware Valley, Dingman-Delaware, Port Jervis, Montague, and Eldred will compete for the chance to represent the tristate area at the Scripps National Spelling Bee, to be held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, in May.
The Tri-State Spelling Bee will be held on Sunday, March 10, at 1:30 p.m. in the Delaware Valley High School auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
