Garden Club scholarship winner's goal is to protect the planet

MILFORD-Annually, Milford Garden Club offers a scholarship to graduating seniors whose focus is horticulture, conservation, or preservation of natural resources. This year’s winner is Joseph Loughney III. He will attend Unity College in Maine working towards a bachelor of science degree in conservation and law enforcement.
His credentials are impressive. His volunteer commitments include: PA Game Commission, PA Fish Commission, Matamoras Fire Department, and DV Mini-camp for football players. He is a member of Shohola Boy Scout Troop 1076 earning his Eagle Scout with Palms, Delaware Valley High School Concert Band, National Audubon Society, Wild Turkey Federation, and Pennsylvania’s Federation of Sportsmen’s Club.
Joseph wrote: “My career goal is to conserve and protect our land, waters, fish and wildlife to the best of my ability. It also is inclusive of learning and educating others to do so. In order to reach this goal, my academic plan is to achieve my bachelor of science degree in conservation law enforcement. I intend to use my education not only to protect our fish and wildlife, but to inspire others to do so. I personally love to hunt and fish, with full understanding that if we don’t protect what we have, our children’s children will not have these resources.”
He is an advocate of the “leave no trace” and “pay it forward” philosophy. Pat Hendershot, Chair of the Scholarship Committee noted how impressed the committee was by his application. “Our future and that of our planet are in good hands with Joseph leading the way.”
