How to get elected workshop, explained

MILFORD — Don't expect campaign spin, but a focus on the roles, responsibilities, and rewards of public service.
Peter Wulfhorst, Economic and Community Development Extension Educator with the Penn State Cooperative Extension of Pike County, explained the upcoming "Toss Your Hat in the Ring" workshop to the Pike County Commissioners at their Jan. 16 meeting. He said the workshop will give an understanding of the responsibilities of a township supervisor, a borough council member, and a school board director. Instructions will include how to file a petition and report campaign expenses.
"Toss Your Hat" will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, at the Pike County Training Center, 135 Pike County Boulevard, Lords Valley. The cost is $25 per person.
Nadeen Manzoni, director of Pike County Elections, said she will provide all the materials you'll need for both elected and appointed positions.
Her presentation will cover how a primary election in Pennsylvania works, how to circulate and file a nomination petition to get on the ballot, how candidates of minor political parties gain access to the ballot in November, and tips for running a successful bid for office.
She will also discuss campaign finance reporting and distribute candidate packets that contain the paperwork and instructions required to run for office.
Wulfhorst also suggested that anyone unsure of whether to run just now may want to volunteer for an appointment. Many boards are currently looking to fill appointed positions, he said.
