Darla Dickson thanks responders on the anniversary of her son's death

MILFORD — Darla Dickson, mother of the late Corporal Bryon Dickson, visited first responders on the anniversary of her son's death.

Saturday, Set. 12, marked one year since Dickson was killed and Trooper Alex Douglass injured in an ambush at the Blooming Grove barracks. Darla Dickson thanked responders from Tafton Fire Department for being there for her son on the night of the shooting.

Matt Nied, trustee of the Tafton Fire Department, and Ray Tonkin, the Pike County District Attorney, arranged for Darla to meet the team for the first time. She greeted each member of the group with a handshake, a thank you, and a hug.

She spoke warmly about Bryon as a rambunctious toddler and then as a determined, hard-working young man. She said she was thankful to know he was not alone that night and grateful to the first responders for being there with him.

The members of the fire department shared their memories of Bryon at different emergency calls and on coffee breaks at a local convenience store.

Darla handed out memorial cards of Bryon to the group to honor her son.
