Abilgail Reno, a senior at Delaware Valley High School, is the first recipient of the Ann Intili Morey Art Scholarship, granted through the Greater Pike Community Foundation.

“I’m grateful for the recognition,” Reno said. “I was very, very surprised! It’s an important scholarship with a lot of good competition.”

She will receive $4,000 toward her study of theater production and design at Temple University.

“She clearly is headed to a career involving her art talents,” said Ann Morey. An artist in her own right, Morey created the scholarship fund to help support a high school senior who plans to major in fine or applied art while attending a two- or four-year accredited college or university. The applicants were required to submit an art portfolio to be judged by a small committee.

“We were most impressed with your art work, creativity and choice of college,” Morey told Reno in announcing the award.

Reno said she was first introduced to theater design in her freshman year and was drawn to it because it required “art, creative thinking and craftsmanship.”

Honorable mentions were given to applicants Hannah Peterson, Madison Henwood, and Zoe Spaide from Wallenpaupack High School, and Alexis King, Elizabeth Storms, and Olivia Gandolfo from Delaware Valley High School.

The Greater Pike Community Foundation helps individuals, families and local businesses to provide a permanent and personal way to give back to the community. For more information visit greaterpike.org or email Jenni Hamill at jennihamill@greaterpike.org.
