Editor’s note: Lisa Emery has submitted the following statement in support of her candidacy of Milford Borough Mayor:

Hometown girl, Lisa Emery, has announced her run for Milford Borough Mayor. Lisa was born and raised in Pike County and is a 3rd generation resident who wants to bring back what she remembers while growing up in Milford- the small town America where you know your neighbors, are always there to help one another and lend a helping hand.

Lisa recently retired after 35 years in the mortgage lending industry, her most recent employer was Bank of America. She tried her hand for a short time selling Real Estate in Milford but soon returned to the mortgage industry.

Lisa is married to Michael, a 30 year veteran of the USAF, who retired as a C5 Flight Engineer and is now employed with the Department of Defense and works out of the Picattiny Arsenal site. He is currently deployed to Al Asad Airbase in Iraq.

Lisa ‘s daughter gifted her a grandson- who is the pride and joy of her life. Both of Lisa’s children attended Delaware Valley School District, her daughter having graduated DV, her son graduated in West Canaan. Her grandson currently attends Delaware Valley Elementary School

Lisa’s son and daughter in law also served in the United State Air Force for 10 years and has since retired to Utah.

There is no one more aware than Lisa who knows what it’s like to potentially sacrifice everything for the love of your Country. Having experienced what many military families go through, finding out that your husband or son’s base is under attack, Lisa has learned what is means to be strong. Military families are near and dear to Lisa and her family.

Lisa, having lived in many larger cities, moved back to her hometown in search of that hometown feel that she missed. She is fully vested in her community and understands firsthand what small town values are and what residents, both new and old, are wanting when they move to Milford. “There truly are few towns left like Milford”, she states.

Lisa’s roots are deep in Milford Borough. Her Emery family Homestead is what is now the Black Walnut Inn. Her Grandfathers home is where her father Bruce, along with his brothers and sisters, helped build he home and were raised. It was called “the farm”. When her Grandfather passed away, “the farm” was sold and the new owner turned it into what it is today- the Black Walnut Inn.....and yes she says the rumors are true...it is haunted!

Lisa who is a Delaware Valley Alumni, was the Junior class president in high school and reminisced that, at the time of her graduating, the class size was only 210 students- quite small as compared to today. After graduating high school she set out from small town America to see what other places had to offer. She has lived in many different places such as San Antonio TX, Mesa, AZ, Sarasota, FL, Detroit, MI, Clayton, NC, Middletown, DE, and most recently Plainville, CT. Her husband has owned a family home in the borough since 1984 so they have always maintained a home here.

In 2017 Lisa and her husband bought her dream home in Milford Borough. This particular house was always her favorite and she would drive by and dream of someday owning it. That dream came true when she heard the house was for sale, she made an appointment to talk to the owners (which happened to be the parents of a high school classmate), made an offer and six weeks later moved into her new home, where she resides today.

Lisa regularly attends church and bible study at Calvary Chapel in Milford. She said the minute she walked in she felt she was home. She enjoys being outside and spends a lot of time in her yard landscaping and gardening. She, her husband and grandson will regularly hike the trails and up to the Knob. At 2 months old her grandson was carried to the top of the mountain and shown his beautiful town of Milford! The Blue Bridge is another favorite spot of hers to cool off by the waterfalls in the summer. The river has always been part of the summertime fun with rafting or a tubing trip down the river. You will see her regularly walking her beautiful puppy “Bailey”, a Golden Mountain Doodle, around town.

When asked why we should vote for her, her answer was simple, “why wouldn’t you want a person who will fully represent the voice of our Borough residents, our neighbors, our family and friends regardless of political affiliation. We all live here, work here, go to school here, are raising our kids and grandkids here! We are all part of a community. We go to the parks, attend our kid’s baseball games at the ballpark, we join our friends and neighbors at our local restaurants. It’s about getting back to the good ol’ “country bumkin” values of greeting one another with a smile as we pass on the sidewalk. Helping out our neighbors however we can. It’s about supporting and believing in our Borough police and Fire Department and Ambulance people, letting them know we appreciate them for all they do to protect and serve us. It’s about transparency of things being planned for the town and letting the community know and decide together. You must ask yourself a question, why did you move here? Most people will say because it’s a beautiful tranquil, little Victorian country town that they fell in love with. I have moved many times and to me, it just feels like home. As a woman, we know when someplace feels like home. It’s about being a good steward of this beautiful town that we have decided to make it our forever home.”

Lisa Emery is running for Milford Mayor on the Republican ticket in the May Primary and the November General Election but intends to represent all voices of our community. She promises to always maintain an open line of communication to Milford residents and asks for your support in the May and November Election.
