The Wayne Memorial Health Foundation is cancelling its 13th annual Harry D. Propst, MD Sporting Clays Invitational scheduled for Sept. 26, due to COVID-19 concerns.

The event is traditionally held at Catskill Pheasantry in Long Eddy, New York, which is following that state’s rules for non-essential business operations during the pandemic. While New York State has managed to “lower its numbers,” the state Department of Health still cautions the virus remains active in the Empire State.

“The clay shoot is one of our most popular fundraisers, and we regret having to cancel it,” said John Conte, director WMH Facility Services and event coordinator. “At the same time, because of the proximity of the shooters in their stands and the many volunteers who are required to maintain the pace and success of the event, we had no choice but to cancel it for safety reasons.” Conte is hopeful next year’s clay shoot will unfold as planned—and be “better than ever!”

The event usually draws about 130 shooters and more than 20 volunteers and raises close to $20,000 for Wayne Memorial Health Foundation, which helps ensure the health system is equipped for the future. Conte added that individuals or organizations can still contribute to the hospital and its COVID operations with a donation to the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation, 601 Park Street, Honesdale, PA 18431.
