— Motorists traveling through northeastern Pennsylvania are encouraged to take a safety break at interstate rest areas over the Labor Day Holiday.

Community groups will serve free coffee at rest areas through a program coordinated with PennDOT that’s designed to encourage drivers to take a break for safety’s sake during the busy holiday travel period from August 29 through September 1.

Breaks will be held at rest areas on Interstates 80, 81 and 84, as well as the Matamoras and Great Bend Welcome Centers at various times during the long holiday weekend.

Safety breaks are provided by non-profit organizations in northeastern Pennsylvania. For information, contact PennDOT's roadside specialist Bill Fives at 570-963-4016 or email
