To the Editor:
We’ve been warned.
Dr. Robert Redfield, the head of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), recently told Americans that we could be in for “the worst fall, from a public health perspective, we’ve ever had.” Epidemiologists expect a second wave of COVID-19 infections to emerge in the latter months of the year, just as flu season is getting under way.
This deadly one-two punch of coronavirus plus influenza points up the urgency of fortifying our health care networks in America and ensuring access to affordable health care for everyone. Mid-pandemic, there should be no uninsured or underinsured Americans.
Here in Northeast Pennsylvania, we voters will be given a choice in November between a congressman who has consistently fought for affordable health care, U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, or an opponent who backs efforts to eliminate the Affordable Care Act, stripping health care coverage from millions of Americans.
Representative Cartwright is vigilant in protecting the millions who have lost their jobs or been furloughed due to the pandemic, simultaneously losing their health insurance. Matt is fighting to protect access to quality health coverage for them and their families.
As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, Matt was pivotal in passing multiple coronavirus response bills that provided relief for small businesses and families struggling during this crisis. He is committed to providing all the resources necessary to do what is needed going forward, from economic relief for workers and families, to funding for PPE and free testing. Moreover, Matt has vowed to protect Medicare and Medicaid from those who would erode or destroy these vital programs.
Pennsylvanians in the 8th District are fortunate to have a representative in Congress who safeguards our needs at such a critical time in our country’s history. Please join me in re-electing Rep. Matt Cartwright to another term.
