A household hazardous waste collection event will be held on October 29, at the Dingman Delaware Middle School, organized by Pike County commissioners in partnership with the Pike County Conservation District, Pocono Source Water Protection Collaborative (PSWPC), and Pike County Office of Community Planning. The cost per vehicle will be $20 and registration is required in advance. The program is limited to 300 resident vehicles. Attendees must be residents of Pike County, and business and commercial hazardous waste will not be accepted; household waste only.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is any product found in a household that is considered toxic, flammable or otherwise dangerous and requires careful handling and disposal. Examples of these hazardous products include items such as pool chemicals, motor oils, and pesticides.

Latex (water-based) paint is not considered HHW if it is in solid form. Water-based paint can be disposed of in your regular household garbage if you solidify first using commercially available paint hardeners, cat litter, or air drying in a safe, well-ventilated area. Properly disposing of these materials can be difficult but important for protecting natural resources.

To register for this event, inventory the amounts of HHW to be disposed of and go to the event page here: https://PikeCountyHHW.eventbrite.com. Contact the Pike County Conservation District at 570-226-8220 or the Pike County Office of Community Planning at 570-296-3500 if you have any questions.
