On June 22, 2022, a Pike County jury returned a $7,000,000.00 verdict in the Court of Common Pleas of Pike County. The $7,000,000.00 verdict is the largest verdict in Pike County history and in the history of the surrounding counties, according to attorney Charles Kannebecker, who represented plaintiffs Lisa Voigtman and the estate of Patricia Edwards against Jonathon Woodruff.

The case proceeded to trial with Pennsylvania State Trooper Jason Mills testifying about his investigation and arrest of Jonathon Woodruff for DWI. PA State Police Sergeant Edward Boettcher also testified as an expert witness with regard to the collision.

Plaintiff Lisa Voigtman testified with regard to the collision and the serious injuries she suffered. Dr. Alfred Janerich testified as to Lisa Voigtman’s injuries and the seriousness and permanency of her injuries.

Patricia Edwards was seriously injured at the scene and died upon reaching Pocono Medical Center. Jeff Edwards, the widower of Patricia Edwards, testified with regard to Patricia’s life the enjoyments that Patricia would be enjoying for the rest of her life had she not been killed in the collision.

In closing, attorney Charles Kannebecker implored the jury to award punitive damages against the defendant as a punishment to him and to try to deter others from driving drunk in the future.

On June 24, 2022, Attorney Kannebecker filed a Motion to add $2,484,418.35 in Rule 238 damages to the verdict. If granted, the Rule 238 Motion would raise the total judgment to $9,480,485.24.
