Milford's first nail salon to open

— Milford residents and longtime best friends Katrina Foster and Caitlan Vill are opening the area’s first nail bar, Lacquer, at 310 West Harford St. in Milford.
Opening Saturday, May 7, the nail bar will offer manicures, pedicures, massages, and waxing for both women and men. Lacquer will also serve complimentary wine, beer, and other beverages to its customers.
“I travel a lot for both business and pleasure and it’s a rarity that I am able to get a manicure and pedicure before I get out of town,” said Foster. “I had a few in the south and immediately fell in love with the idea, but knew I needed a hand in getting it off the ground.”
The business was conceived in late September and after only seven months of planning, Lacquer had its soft opening on April 29.
“At first, I really thought that Katrina was out of her mind, but after having my own nail bar experience, I realized she was on to something,” added Vill. “I immediately fell in love with the idea and we spent the next 12 hours, on our way home from vacation, planning out the name, marketing strategy, and what we wanted our brand to embody.”
There are six pedicure chairs with heat and massage, a nail bar that seats up to six guests for nail services, a luxurious reception area, waxing, and a massage room with wall-to-wall Himalayan salt lamps. Lacquer offers a number of various mani and pedi services, complete with hypo allergenic products for even the most sensitive skin.

Pushing the limits
After a decade of building and running KKPR Marketing and Public Relations, Foster was looking for a new challenge. She stumbled upon a nail bar in Charlotte, N.C., with her aunt and grandmother. After a few hours, a couple glasses of wine, and an incredible afternoon with her two favorite matriarchs, she knew this was her next adventure.
She enlisted her bestie, Caity. A bit skeptical at first, Vill listened to Foster's excited ramblings about combining wine and nail services with open ears, but it wasn’t until they both shared the experience at a nail bar in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
“I believe the only way to grow is to push the limits," Foster said.
Vill is determined to make her mark in her hometown of Milford.
After completing her BSBA Marketing and Certificate in Advertising from Kutztown University, she returned to Milford only to be snatched up by KKPR in June 2011. After learning all the ins and outs of the marketing and public relations realm, she left to help her family business in Shohola.
Starting as shop scum, she has worked her way up the ropes — currently acting as Shop Forman and appointed treasurer for Industrial Hose. Dabbling in every aspect of the business has given her an understanding of the depth and breadth of a small business in Pike County.
Lacquer Nail Bar’s services will be available Tuesday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The production house-style of getting your nails done will be officially over, say partners.
