Too much salt, not enough power
DINGMAN TOWNSHIP —– In the last few weeks, Dingman Township’s Volunteer Fire Department has dealt with two separate incidents that have brought power outages and tough road conditions.
A few weeks back, a dump truck delivering salt on behalf of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) on Wilson Hill Road overturned, dumping about 20 tons of salt on the road, Fire Chief Mark O'Brien told supervisors.
“It was a private contractor, not a PennDOT truck," he said. "Nobody was hurt, but it kept the road closed for about three hours.”
It all cleared up quickly, he said — then joked that 20 tons of salt was going to keep the road clear for the next 30 years.
On Monday, March 6, Route 739 from Dark Swamp Road at Flair Hardware to the Dingman-Delaware Schools had to close after a utility pole crashed down, cutting power.
Afternoon school dismissal and rush hour were affected. The schools, Pike Physical Therapy, and Damien Roche Fitness Center were all accessible from Log Tavern Road.
