Milford Hill closing all school-year programs
MILFORD After 23 years serving more than 2,100 children, the Milford Hill Learning Center will shut down its school-year programs as Aug. 17, according to owner Karen Quick.
Quick announced her decision in a July 30 letter to parent families of the 145 children currently enrolled at the center, saying the combination of growing invasive state control of the industry in recent years had prompted her decision.
That included, "...invasion of customers privacy and many unnecessary demands from the state increasingly limiting the ability of private child care owners to operate their centers and make choices and business decisions for the benefit of the children and parents they serve."
These concerns prompted Quick's decision to "semi-retire from the business and begin a new chapter," in her life.
Quick wrote that refunds for September tuition deposits were to be mailed out by Sept. 1.
The center is scheduled to re-open for the School Age Summer Camp-Program in June 2013.
With a licensed capacity of 190 children, Milford Hill is the largest childrens' day care center in Pike County.
