MILFORD — Learn how to improve the health of your forest at a restoration workshop to be held at the Milford Experimental Forest, a privately owned research forest at the Grey Towers National Historic Site.

The workshop includes two sessions: an indoor session from 9 a.m. to noon and an outdoor session from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants may attend the whole day or just the morning or afternoon session. Lunch, drinks and snacks will be provided. Participants should wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather and be prepared for a hike on rocky and sloping terrain.

During the morning session, Peter Pinchot, forest landowner, will talk about the history of the experimental forest and the challenges that many private landowners face in our region after having the opportunity to share your own questions or concerns. Later, hear how climate change is affecting, and will continue to affect, forest ecology and management in the Upper Delaware River watershed from Susan Beecher of the Pinchot Institute for Conservation.

After lunch, drive to the Milford Experimental Forest and hear from Leila Pinchot, Peter’s daughter and forest landowner, about a current pipeline restoration project while touring restoration sites along the pipeline. Discussions will also include deer management, wildlife habitat management, biodiversity, and tree planting techniques.

The work Delaware Highlands Conservancy, the Pinchot Institute for Conservation, and the Pike-Monroe Woodland Owners Group.
