Carole Rose Feistel (“Feisty”) of Greeley, Pa., died on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, in Louisville, Ky. She was 78.

Daughter of Katherine and Everitt Feistel, she was born in Queens, N.Y., on Feb. 15, 1939. She graduated from P.S. 63 in Ozone Park, N.Y.

Her professional career included positions as office manager at Republic Carloading in New York, N.Y., and she later enjoyed a long career in the hospitality industry at fine resorts in the Pocono Mountains, including Cliff Park Inn in Milford, Pa., and most recently at Woodloch Pines in Hawley, Pa., where she worked for 14 years.

She was a compassionate, hard working, fun loving, resourceful and fiercely independent woman with great integrity. She enjoyed nature, wildlife, sharing time with family and friends, PBS, swimming, the BBC, antiques, puzzles, exercise, classic comedies, a good cup of tea and a warm fire. She was involved at the Pike County Area on Aging, where she helped prepare meals for people in need. She also supported wildlife, conservation, and veteran’s organizations.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kelly Ortiz of Louisville, Ky.; sister, Dorothy LaPenter and dear friend Marty Hess of Middletown, N.Y.; nieces, Jennifer and Nicole LaPenter of Middletown; great-nephew, Trevor; step-sisters Margaret and Celia and niece Carole of Florida; her Aunt Ruthie; and many cousins, including Marilyn, Doreen and Jereann.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Carbone; husband, Israel Robert Ortiz; and nephew, Walter LaPenter.

A Memorial service will be held at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, Pa., on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Luana Cook-Scott of Milford United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at noon.
