MILFORD — The Healthcare Careers CTE program at Delaware Valley High School welcomed a guest speaker, third-grader Josie Lordi, to their class on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
The Healthcare Careers classes previously completed a lesson on Type 1 Diabetes in their literacy program. They read about different techniques patients use to manage the disease and how it affects their daily lives.
As an extension to this lesson, Josie Lordi, a nine-year-old Delaware Valley Elementary School student who has Type 1 Diabetes, spoke to the class about managing her disease with the help of her Diabetic Alert Dog, Zoey.
After Josie spoke to the large group, she answered questions from the students about managing her daily routine, living with diabetes, and navigating through the public with Zoey. She was poised and well-spoken throughout the presentation.
At the close, the Healthcare Career students applauded her and presented her with a thank you card they made for her and Zoey. The Healthcare Career students expressed a better understanding of living with diabetes through the eyes of a patient, an important perspective for future healthcare workers.
