Supervisors offer prayer of comfort after loss of Gary Clark Jr.

MILFORD — The meeting of the Milford Township supervisors on May 19 started off on a somber note. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Chairman Don Quick read an invocation as requested by the absent Gary Clark Sr.

“We ask for guidance of God,” Quick began, "and wisdom of man as we undertake the business before us tonight. Tonight, we also ask especially that God be with all parents everywhere, particularly those who have lost children before their time with you was due.

"We particularly pray that you be with and support fellow supervisor Gary Clark and his entire family as they have laid their son Gary Clark Jr. to eternal rest this very day. May he and all children untimely taken be remembered for the happiness and good that they shared with us. In the Lord's name, Amen.”

Gary Martin Clark Jr. died on May 13 in Baltimore at the age of 29. He was a highly decorated Army veteran, having served in the elite Calvary Scout corps with Detachment 1 HC 1/109 Infantry.

A 2003 graduate of Delaware valley High School, the younger Clark graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political science from IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) Honors College. After his military service, he served in the AmeriCorps, helping to rebuild New Orleans after Katrina.

Known by family and friends for his tenacious dedication to whatever he pursued, Clark entered politics, studied at the Center for American Studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and worked for a while in a Think Tank.

Born Aug. 12, 1984, in Port Jervis, the younger Clark is survived by parents, grandparents, sister, girlfriend, aunts, uncles, cousins and a niece. A family statement read: "We will miss his enthusiasm, sense of humor, creativity, and his ability to make friends every where he went. He will be remembered for his love of fun and charm."
