— Artists explored celebrations of Valentine's and Presidents' Days in "Lovers and Visionaries," the February group show at the ARTery Gallery in Milford.
Homage is paid to lovers, and the expression of love toward someone or something, and to visionaries, like Washington and Lincoln, who embody original ideas about what the future can or should be.
For example, the paintings of Rosalind Hodgkins are based on ancient myths, including Aphrodite, goddess of love, and Flora, goddess of flowers.
June Ponte's portrait paintings depicting iconic cultural figures like Abraham Lincoln, Edgar Allen Poe, Frida Kahlo, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, and others. Some of these visionaries are also featured in Ponte's eclectic jewelry.
Marie Liu's work portraying the visionary Gifford Pinchot will be included in the exhibit.
This member show includes some of the most accomplished artists in the tri-state area who create watercolors, fine art portraits, handcrafted jewelry, abstract paintings, regional photography, landscape painting, sculptures, and more.
The public is invited to a wine and cheese reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11.
The exhibit will be on display from Feb. 10 through March 5 at the gallery, located at 210 Broad St. in Milford. For more information call 570-409-1234.
