If you are a fan of the classic 1950’s “creature feature” movies, you might want to make a reservation to attend a Wednesday evening “Dinner and a Creature Feature” hosted by the Columns Museum.

What started out as a series to help raise funds for the Science Fiction Panel portion of the popular Readers and Writers Festival has turned into a popular Wednesday night happening– watch a classic horror movie complete with a dinner served up with a complimentary glass of wine and dessert and coffee.

This month, on December 28, the museum will show the 1954 classic “Them!”

Them! is a landmark movie about giant radiation-mutated ants that boasts Academy Award -nominated special effects. Starring James Whitmore, James Arness and Edmund Gwenn, Them! begins in New Mexico with a child wandering in shock, a ransacked general store -- and a battered corpse full of enough formic acid to kill 20 men. It ends with an epic struggle in the 700 miles of storm drains under Los Angeles, where the insect hordes are beaten. But they’re not conquered, because they spawned a generation of films about radioactive creatures.

Look for “The Deadly Mantis” to make an appearance on January 18.

Creature Feature Events begin at 5 p.m. in the Foundation Room of the Columns Museum

Tickets are $35 for museum members and $40 for nonmembers.
