Bernard E. Vanisky

Bernard E. Vanisky of Scranton, Pa., passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 79 years old.

He served in the National Guard and was an optician for Dr. Dominick A. Cruciani Jr. before purchasing the optical department he worked in to found The Optical House, with locations in Scranton and Pittston.

He recently retired as an optician from the Northeastern Eye Institute of Scranton, Pa. Bernard loved boating, dogs, storytelling, building and fixing things, carpentr, and helping his patients.

The son of Benedict and Stephanie (Futyma) Vanisky, Bernard was born Sept. 8, 1943, in Simpson, Pa. He was married to Adele (Odzer) Vanisky.

Bernard is survived by his wife Adele Vanisky; sons Doug Vanisky and Gregory Vanisky; grandchildren Bode, Mavin and Lena; daughter-in-law, Clarisa; sister-in-law Olivia Joorman; brother-in-law Carl Joorman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Benedict and Stephanie Vanisky and his brother Edward Vanisky.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or The Humane Society of the United States.
