Nancy Marie Opitz of Matamoras, Pa., passed away on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, Pa. She was 62.
Daughter of the late Harold and Anna (Kyle) Cron Jr, she was born on Sept. 29, 1958 in Port Jervis, NY. She was married to Michael Opitz who preceded her in death.
She was a caregiver. In her younger years she was a standout champion athlete for Delaware Valley High School in both field hockey and softball. She adored all her family, and loved spending time with them. As well as adoring her family, she was an avid animal lover. She rescued, and took care of many animals throughout her years. Nancy was generous and giving in a variety of ways. From giving her time, lending a kind ear, inspiration, and all things in between Nancy could always be counted on to be there for you.
Nancy leaves behind her children, Steven Opitz and wife, Deidre Filchak, of Scranton,Jeremiah Opitz of Kingston, Pa., and Anthony Opitz of Kingston, Pa.; sisters, Patricia Stroyan of Milford, Pa., Debra DiMaggio of Cascade, Md., and Lisa Gilpin of Apex, N.C.; and grandchildren, Adryan, Hayden, Carter, and Chace Opitz.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Cron.
Cremation was private at convenience to the family at MacLennan Hall Crematorium, Milford Township, Pa. Final interment will be at Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township, Pa.
