Pennsylvania workers each spent $2,627 on average in 2019 on after-work drinks, according to research by alcohol.org. Other findings: one in 3 workers think after work drinks is good for team bonding. The average after-work drink session lasts 1.8 hours. And one in 10 workers drink shots after work. The national average is $3,035, with Kentuckians spending the most ($5,530) per year on drinks after work, while Mainers spent the least ($1,415). The research also found that 15 percent of employees would have no qualms about getting drunk in front of their boss, and 11 percent of bosses say they would get drunk in front of their employees. Over one-third of workers interviewed believe after-work drinks are a good way to bond and strengthen a team. This might have something to do with the relaxed nature of a restaurant or bar as compared to a stressful office environment. “It’s easy to fall into a routine of having a couple of drinks after a tiring day,,” says Joy Sutton, spokesperson for Alcohol.org. “Alcohol use disorder is more common than people realize. It’s the No. 1 reason people seek treatment at American Addiction Centers. To evaluate if you or a loved one may have a problem, there is a free online assessment. We encourage people to reach out for help. Alcohol use disorder is treatable, but left untreated, will most likely get worse.”
