Students in Mrs. Kudrich’s fifth-grade class at Delaware Valley Elementary School prepared for a nature hike near the Delaware River this past fall by reading a few poems by Henry David Thoreau. As he once said, “How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live.” Mrs. Kudrich brought her students outside to walk on the land at the school to become inspired to write. We stopped several times to take in the scenery, listen to natures’ sounds, and to make notes on what inspired us.
