— The Food Pantry at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Dingmans Ferry is expanding.
With financial support from Lou Wentzler, a pantry volunteer and church member, a grant through the Commonwealth Financing Authority, and the support of the Holy Trinity congregation, the food pantry will be increasing its storage and distribution areas from 200 square feet to 860 square feet.
The new food pantry will be dedicated to the memory of Patricia Ann and Richard Louis Wentzler, Lou's wife and son. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for noon on Sunday, July 1, at the church.
The need for the additional storage space has become a top priority. The pantry has had to use other areas of the church for additional food storage, freezers, and refrigerators. The proposed addition of 860 square feet will allow operations to be centrally located and free up much needed space for the church. The current storage area is located in the basement of the church. The new area will be above ground with windows, which will be a much better environment for pantry volunteers.
The idea for the expansion was brought to the church council a couple of years ago. A few options were discussed and the council knew that financing the project would be the first hurtle. The plan was presented to the congregation and through Wentzler's donationi, the first steps in realizing the vision were taken. The church also applied and received a grant in the amount of $50,000 through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Commonwealth Financing Authority, Local Share Account.
