Color guard is music made visible. This past season, the Delaware Valley Color Guard was an amazing display of new uniforms, several new silks, and the addition of sabers and swing flags. We competed in virtual competitions and had great fun doing it.

This year we are trying something new. We are opening up the opportunity to join the DV Color Guard to students from grades 7 to 12. Starting Friday, April 9, we will be getting ready for the new 2021 season and have created, Learning and Practice Sessions for those who may be interested in being a DV Color Guard Member. Practice will be once a week and equipment will be supplied. You can come and try it out to see if you like it or not. Due to Covid virus, all practices will be outside at the DV Middle School parking lot practice field. If schools are at home due to the virus, practices will be rescheduled.

What is Color Guard you may ask?

Well, Color Guard is a mix of several elements — grace, strength, and coordination, while using various type of equipment. While utilizing color, various equipment and body positioning, the Color Guard makes the Marching Band Music come alive visually. Color Guard is considered a sport and is the fastest growing in the world. Being a member of the Color Guard includes you into a team of diverse members. Whether a student has participated in other sports, dance, or other artistic milieus, the “Sport of Arts” as Color Guard is referred to, embodies and embraces everyone.

What would your responsibilities be, as a member of the Color Guard?

You would need to made practices, take care of the equipment assigned to you, attend Band Camp held in August, perform at all scheduled football games and competitions, as well as, practice on your own or with a Guard member if you are having trouble with equipment, movement or drill. After a few weeks of practice, it will all start becoming second nature to you. You really will begin to feel GREAT, especially, when everyone performs together in unison; it truly is an awesome feeling to know your team performance was flawless.

Come join us at the Delaware Valley Middle School parking lot field from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 9. Email jangelo3@ptd.net or text 973-214-2128.
