Vigil to remember all who live or who have died homeless in Pike County

Milford. On Dec. 21, Pike County Hands of Hope will join communities across the country in honoring the memories of those who never made it off the streets – the people who died alone and anonymously because of exposure to the elements, dehydration and illness, without ever knowing there were people who cared.

Pike County Hands of Hope will join organizations and spiritual communities nationwide in commemorating National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day.

Its seventh annual candlelight vigil will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, on the steps of the Pike County Courthouse, 401 Broad St., Milford. Prayer will be offered for all who live or who have died homeless in Pike County.

Every December, in cities across the country, candlelight vigils have been held as a symbol of the light that regular citizens can bring to homeless people, and to let them know there are people who care and want to help brighten their path to a better future.

For 25 years, the vigil has honored the memories of the families and friends who never made it off the streets – the people who died alone and anonymously because of exposure to the elements, dehydration and illness, without ever knowing there were people who cared.

Pike County Hands of Hope invites everyone in the community to gather and light a candle in remembrance. The ceremony will last about an hour, followed by a short walk down the street to the Presbyterian Church of Milford for a gathering with coffee and desserts. All are welcome.
