Nov. 9 was a big night at Delaware Valley High School, where two state playoff games were being played. Girls soccer and girls volleyball both were in the state playoff mix .

I was trying to observe both games, but it’s impossible to give a play-by-play report. The soccer game was played at the football stadium outside, and the volleyball game was played on the basketball court inside.

What I can tell you is that both games were hotly contested, and all four teams were talented and athletic.

D.V. played Nazareth in soccer and Cumberland Valley in volleyball.

Although both games were well supported by the hometown folks, and were well-played against very talented opponents, I am sad to report that it was not the way the local fans would have hoped it would turn out. The soccer team was defeated by a 1-0 score. Nazareth scored early, and it was enough to close the deal.

The volleyball team was defeated 3 sets to 0. The game was closer than the set totals would indicate. The first two sets went down to the wire with the final one being convincing for Cumberland.

It was a great effort by both teams, and it still was a terrific season for both. Hold your heads up high, girls. You did Delaware Valley proud.
